Workshop fully booked, but please still register for this workshop as you will be put on the waiting list. We will contact you if a place becomes vacant. If we have sufficient interest, we will try to arrange another workshop after the Festival. |
DESCRIPTION:
Focus will be on exploiting both the potential and the limitations of clay in a variety of states from liquid to solid in two and three dimensions. You will not only learn how to but also why.
Techniques will include pinch and coil ( I will show some photographs of massive pinch and coil pots being made in China), slab construction (borrowing techniques from the concreting industry), mould making and slip casting (including a slip casting recipe 1/10 the cost of a bought slip). A variety of techniques will be used to texture and decorate clay forms, with recipes given for slips and glazes which suit hand built clay objects.
There will be a lecture on the design process (HOW TO BE YOUR OWN DESIGNER RATHER THAN A FOLLOWER) and I will show a short but wonderful film which shows the loading, firing and unloading of a famous dragon kiln in China.
TIME AND PLACE: July 19 to July 20 (2 days), 8.30am to 4pm, Studio 2, Community Arts Centre.
WORKSHOP FEE: $140

DESCRIPTION:
Focus will be on relief printing techniques (lino cut, wood cut etc) with an introduction to my variation called Stencil Relief, which opens up possibilities for multi-colour printing with a minimum of effort. I will be bringing a variety of found and prepared materials to demonstrate the graphic potential of surfaces other than linoleum and wood.
As we willl have use of a small printing press, we will also be able to work with Collagraphs, which are a combination of Relief and Intaglio.
Apart from experiment and discovery, our target is for each student to produce a small edition of identical prints.
TIME AND PLACE: July 24 to July 25 (2 days), 8.30am to 4pm, Studio 2, Community Arts Centre.
WORKSHOP FEE: $140
