Sue won the member’s prize in the Textile Art at Guild’s Fabricate exhibition in 2007. Sue teaches workshops in creative machine embroidery.
Sue will be holding two workshops during the festival.
SS1. One fish, two fish, textile fish galore! Capture the vibrant colours and exotic forms of the underwater world, create an impressionistic watery background and bring the quirky character of fish to life in textiles. Create one fish two fish or a whole school using a combination of materials and techniques including free machine embroidery, lace, fabric collage burning, knitting, embroidery knotting and more.
SS2. The brightly coloured and richly embroidered textiles of Gujarat in Western India provide a wonderful source of inspiration for the contemporary creative embroiderer. The traditional wall or door hanging (Toran) is made in many styles and is easily adapted to contemporary techniques. This workshop provides an opportunity to explore a variety of machine techniques and to recycle old fabric or use those “too special” fabric, brocades, lace, braids and trimmings from your stash. The Toran can be embellished to your hearts content using hand stitching, Shisha Mirrors, Sequins and Beads. Warning! Making Torans can be addictive!!
