Catherine Bilson – Wire Wrapper and Silversmith
Catherine has been wire wrapping for 9 years and silversmithing for 7. She is mostly self-taught and now enjoys passing on her hard-won experience to those new to the art, as well as learning from other skilled smiths in a community group at the Bribie Island Lapidary Club.
Catherine’s work has been sold to at least 11 countries worldwide, including the UK, the USA, Canada, France, South Africa, Germany, Croatia, New Zealand, China, Japan and Brazil. Her jewellery has been exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne galleries as well as locally around South East Queensland.
In 2010 Catherine’s “Cathedral Filigree Bracelet” won a Journeyman award at the Abbey Medieval Masterpiece Competition and in 2011 her necklace “She Walks In Beauty” won the Matthew Flinders Art Competition (Jewellery Section). Photographs of her art piece “Filigree Crown” are scheduled to appear in a new book by respected American silver filigree artist Jeanne Rhodes-Moen.
