Sunshine Coast based artist Aileen Shaw’s passion for drawing and art appreciation began at a very young age. Born in Brighton, Victoria, her first grade teacher in Finley in the Riverina, NSW made a lasting impression on the young artist by teaching Aileen to “join the sky to the land”. Later in Melbourne she was a hairdresser, winning many competitions, in another art form.
The urge to travel the Outback became another passion and became Aileen’s strongest influence, with its colour and vibrancy. Living in the Gulf of Carpentaria for four years nurtured this natural instinct.
Having painted now for more than 35 years she was a member of the Aspley Art Group, Brisbane, and attended many seminars and workshops conducted by successful artists. These included abstract artist Irene Amos, Maggie Thompson, Eric Whisson, Rick Everingham, Herman Pekel, Brian Allison, Michael Winters, Lucja Ray, Jenni Kelly, and many others.
Aileen has painted with Mervyn Moriarty at the McGregor Summer School, Peter Griffin at the Grafton Artfest, and this year with Elizabeth Cummings at Byron Bay.
Whilst living at Rainbow Beach on the Queensland East Coast, Aileen founded the local art group and was the teacher for six years, before relocating to Glenview on the Sunshine Coast as the proud owner of her own art gallery and busy teaching studio.
Aileen has won many prizes throughout Australia and her paintings hang in homes and corporations throughout Australia and overseas, including Germany, England, New Zealand and the USA.
Her acrylic works have been described by judges as possessing “inherent artistic qualities, from the very good drawing to the handling of the paint through tonal areas, and the excellent use of paint”
Her freedom, flair, and love of acrylics shows that every painting is an exciting journey and is a reflection of her free spirit.
