Festival Fun Flutter Flags

Be part of the Festival Fun Flag Community

The Festival Fun Flutter Flags give all Festival participants, workshop participants, volunteers, tutors, and visitors the chance to celebrate the Festival and Bribie Island together by making 1000 Festival Fun Flags which will be hung in clusters to eventually envelope
the Art Centre with colour and movement during the Festival.

Our flags symbolise freedom, their bright colours glow for happiness,
and the weaving, wrapping and tying symbolises a caring family and strong community spirit

All workshop participants will be given a flag (with ties) in their welcome bag, and a stock of flags will be available for Festival visitors at the Flag Space at the rear of the Centre, and at the Gem Club and the Woodworkers.

What should I put on my Fun Flag?

Anything you want – a painting, a drawing of your tutor, poem, a favorite saying, just write your name – You can also cut and shape the Flag anyway you want – and add other objects, as long as the overall size stays the same.

What about the already painted side?

Again, it is up to you – if you like it, leave it as it is, or change it as much as you like. If you are really stuck, exchange it for another flag – totally blank ones are available in several materials if you prefer.   We have cut many of the flags from no longer wanted artworks donated by our members as their contribution to the Festival - and to give the flag-makers an interesting creative challenge.

Can I start from scratch and make my own Flag?

Yes, as long as the overall size stays about the same (roughly the area of half a sheet of paper, but it can be a bit longer if you want), and your final creation is wind resistant, and preferably also rain resistant.

What do I do when I have finished my Fun Flag?

You can tie your Flag to the Flag Display anytime between about 10 am and 3 pm (longer on some days!) – just go out the back gate towards the Woodworkers, then turn right and you will see our banner. As the Flag displays will be organic, growing works of art, your flag may get moved.

We will be having Fun with the Flags daily between 9 am and 3 pm (and perhaps other times too). We will have a stock of both marking pens and paints to help decorate the flags and other bits and pieces you can add to the flags and the installation. We are using sisal string to hang the flags which offers lots of creative possibilities for ways to hang the flags.  We would love to have your help.

When do I have to do get it done by – can I take it home to work on it?

Certainly – but PLEASE remember to bring it back!!!

We will be making an ongoing photographic and video record of the Flutter Flags and the places they are displayed surrounding the Centre.
